unlink /dev/mouse
should be fine?

You can use unlink, rm, is less typing.

Check /etc/vga/libvga.config and see if you have 'mouse'

I have no folder /etc/vga.

For the record, I installed the packages libsvga1 and libsvga1-dev.
Before the installer was unhappy.

Are this the correct decencies?

It's been awhile since I used Debian, and I know those are
the right libraries for Debian, but I think you need to install
svgalib. You may have to do-
#>apt-get install svgalib-bin
I can't remember if that's the correct command, but it should
be something similar. You may also need the kernel module
svgalib_helper since your prolly using a 2.6.x kernel. If everything
is installed right, /etc/vga may just show up. If you have Arachne
running in SVGAlib already, mkdir an /etc/vga directory, make a file
libvga.config in it, with this one line in libvga.config.
mouse PS2
Make sure the module svgalib_helper.ko is loaded, that might be all
that could stop the mouse. Also restrictive permissions on the arachne
binary or something could stop the mouse.
See if any of that helps.

set at-
mouse PS2
or
mouse IMPS2
One of those should let it work in Arachne.
