PDF actually predated HTML and was at one point to have been the markup language of the web. 


Now they want to embed flash animations in pdf's.


  They've been embedding flash animations in HTML for years.

Granted, I also don't like flash, and certainly don't think it belongs in a "Document" format, which I believe should be capable of being printed.
