This is a reply using an external editor...
Arachne in 'reply mode' no 'quote' of the original message, just the
header with address & subject line.
CTRL+R (read) is used to include the output of the external editor
into the message to be send. Read newpage.txt

"Here is the method I use for composing an email with Arachne and by
using an external editor:"
"First I go into my outbox and I edit the saved message by addingt the
message body by using my external editor. Then I save that and it is
ready to send." "Works for me".
I tried to emulate that with my VDE external editor, but could never
seem to get inside the outbox with my editor to enter text.
Does anyone have any further comments with respect to that problem?"

Hi Brian... this is written by an external editor.
First: I exported the original e-mail text by hitting hot key 'P' that
copied to page.txt.
2nd: I left arachne and went to the external editor to edit page.txt
3rd: After I made my comments I closed the external editor and saved this
file as: newpage.txt
4th: Newpage.txt is included in the reply to the original e-mail in Arachne
with CTRL+R (read newpage.txt)
Remark: Newpage.txt can also be attached to an e-mail in Arachne from whatever
editor, even M$ Word.
5th: Save to outbox
6th: send e-mail
Regards, Bastiaan
