My Netgear RT314 router supports three ways to configure it: web
interface (with JS), Telnet and a terminal similar to the Telnet version
that can be accessed via the serial port. I guess the latter is for the
case when you do not know the gateway address or it cannot be accessed
for some reason, due to an address conflict, etc. I never had to use
the web interface with it, and once it was properly configured, I never
had to change its setup again.
