Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church

I pray you are encouraged and refreshed as you sense the companionship of Jesus with you during your journey through Lent.

Whenever we are searching for some solution to a problem or for additional resources that will help us better manage a challenge, usually a definite image is composed in our minds about what this assistance would look like. Even in our assessment of the church community, we may be prompted to seek to produce a specific composition of persons who respond in particular ways in order to fashion a religious community that conforms to our estimation of what the church should look like. Although these practices might be beneficial to us and work to stimulate our personal behaviors, they may also actually prevent us from discovering and appreciating the character of life that is being prepared for us. Focusing only on our initial perceptions can distract us in ways that keep us from experiencing some of the gifts and blessings designed by God for us. Finding a way to honor and accommodate the wisdom of God’s spirit within us can bring to us the joy and peace we seek.

The scriptures we will consider this next Fourth Sunday of Lent are 1 Samuel 16:1-13; John 9:1-41; and Ephesians 5:8-14. Thoughts prompted by these passages will compose the sermon, 'Seeing what you are looking for.'

The Open Forum Group meeting in Annex 1, discussing Richard Foster’s book, Celebration of Discipline.

The Sanctuary Group meeting in back of the main building continues a series discussion of creation, evolution, religion and science, focusing on Creationism this Sunday.

Sunday, April 3 We will share Communion together during worship, and afterward we will have our community meal.

Sunday, April 3 The Working Group for the National Assembly to Honor Freedom of Conscience will meet at the church at 12:30p.

Thursday, April 7 The Men of the Church will gather for breakfast, 7a, at Jim’s Restaurant, NW of the intersection of Hwy 183 and Burnet Road.

Saturday, April 16 CDC Yard Sale Begin collecting items for the sale and planning to be present to celebrate this opportunity of gift giving and receiving. wy 183 and Burnet Road.
