Members and Friends of Austin Mennonite Church

I pray the comforting rhythm of the Advent season is refreshing your spirit.

Like the prophets before us, the church of Jesus Christ is in the world
to declare the Lord's way. During Advent we routinely reflect on provisions
that would bring comfort and joy--a kind of Christmas list which includes
things we believe would promote peace and goodwill. Behind this activity
lies our awareness that a stronger power is working to disrupt the design of
God for the creation. Knowing what to choose becomes our solemn occupation
as we approach the season of giving and receiving gifts. God's commitment
to restore and transform our world encourages us. As surely as graceful
clematis flowers unfold each spring on fall's dried vines, God is breathing
recreation into our world. We search for the places where this refreshing
breath engages our disrupted existence; we open our eyes, praying to see
where God's spirit is inviting our participation in the process of
redemption.

These thought will compose the meditation for this next Sunday, 'Never
underestimate the ordinary.'

May it go well with you. Sincerely,

Garland Robertson

...always hold firmly to the thought that each one of us can do something to
bring some portion of misery to an end
