Hello Women of AMC, Yes, it's official! This week's meeting is at my house, 6920 Hansa Loop, 78739 (directions below) and my phone is 512-565-1436. On the agenda: We will be planning two things, Carrie's Baby Shower (June 1, right?) and our Women's Group contribution to upcoming worship leadership. I stand by my suggestion to take leadership of the Mother's Day Sunday (May 14), but at the time of my suggestion I did not realize what a wonderful amount of energy had just gone into planning today's Youth Sunday (which was a resounding, uplifting success.) So whether it is feasible will depend on the interest of the rest of us. (Email me before Thurs'. meeting if you will be in town in two weeks and interested in participating in some way.) I have several ideas that would make it meaningful for each of us, since each of us, woman, man and child, has a mother and is grateful to many other women and mothers in our lives. I think that Mother's Day Sunday is a particularly fitting Sunday to contribute to for our group. I also have personal reasons for wanting to make this year's special, since I so much appreciate right now my own mother's contributions to my life. Regarding future dates, July 30th will conflict with many vacations. The 5th Sunday in October is also on the table, but this is traditionally Reformation/Mennonite Heritage Sunday which lends itself too easily to dour reflections on martyrdom and repression. I would suggest that our group choose another date that is more cause for celebration of the feminine. Also, on Mother's Day, we can rely on Garland to preach, but if we chose the week thereafter (May 21) we would have to fill the meditation as well. Talk to you all soon, Heidi ----- Original Message ----- From: Heidi Xiong To: amc@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: 4/30/2006 7:53:16 AM Subject: [amc] Women's group next Thursday I'd like to volunteer to host this week/month's Women's meeting at my house this Thursday, May 4, begining 6:30-9:00+ I know that it is not a central location (SW Austin) but it would only be this once (: and I may have a hard time getting to a meeting held elsewhere.) Plus!... I have woken up with some really exciting idea for having us women of AMC organize and lead the worship service for this Mother's Day coming up in two weeks. It would be awesome, I assure you. (Of course we should also snap up a booking for the 5th Sunday in July, which could also be fabulous (in a non-boastful, humble way, of course.) Today, however, I really look forward to Youth Sunday. See you, Heidi P.S. I just realized that I will out of town on the first Thursday of May which is our scheduled women's group at our house. I have a couple of ideas and want to ask what you think about them. First, would you all like to meet at a restaurant or place like "Soup R Salad"...or "Susie's Chinese Restaurant" ... or "Luby's"... instead of someone else hosting at their house? These places I mentioned are on Anderson Lane (Luby's is on Steck & MoPac) which is the main road behind where we live so it might be central. OR someone could volunteer to host this month OR have another idea for a place to meet. Also....we need to talk about Carrie's shower which I will host at our June meeting. Carrie has given some great suggestions of things she needs for her little one and I will send that list out in a separate e-mail. Then, if you saw Garland's e-mail, we need to talk about hosting one of the 5th Sunday services. Marilyn mentioned she has a reading she could share for the "sermon" and others have also mentioned some ideas that sound interesting. If that has changed please let me know...since we haven't talked about this in a while. So, as you can see there is a lot to discuss. I will miss being with you but I have to admit I'm pretty excited about being in Houston with my sister who is flying down from Virginia. It's our 'sister's weekend.' Please let me know what you think of my ideas and if someone has different suggestions please feel free to express them.
