Desperate Novice would greatly appreciate any help with the following

Have a double layer of cotton linen and I need to embroider  3 letters "Ari"  2 
1/2 inch block for the A.

What stitch do I use, satin or fill?

What density and pull comp is appropriate? 

What underlay's should I use?
