Dear cjk,
Chances are, your hook timing is okay. It is not common to find someone's hook
timing is off unless you got something caught in the rotary hook such as fabric
or a broken needle.
As for checking your hook timing position, if your needle is at "bottom
center", the hook point will be to the right of the needle. You want to be at
"hook timing point" for the hook point to be just behind the needle. If you
loosen your rotary hook screws, you might just have a bigger problem on you
hands.
If the bobbin is not being picked up, you have to make sure the bobbin tail is
adequate for being picked up. If it's too short, then you have a trimmer
issue.
If your needle is not inserted in correctly, it also will not pick up the
bobbin thread. If your presser foot is not all the way down, you will get a
similar situation. You could also have retaining finger adjustment issues as
well.
As for pictures of the XT and the original Amaya, yes they might be different
but the concept and parts involved in hook timing is still the same.
Consider calling Melco's service department so that you can discuss your
problem explaining how you got to this point.
Good Luck,
