Frank,
a couple pieces of stiff cutaway backing, tight hooping and a material thickness
a little higher than normal for that usual thickness. Maybe go 2 or so higher
than normal for setting so that you don't pinch down on the fabric. Also maybe
try your presser foot a click or two higher too so you aren't pulling the fabric
over each time it comes down.
this always works for ma and I do quite a bit of nylon and tactyl golf suits
