You need some sort of connection to do what steve described - wired or
wireless. You could also set up a home "workgroup" network but that again
requires a connection between the two computers (though not necessarily a
connection to the internet).
The way you have things, you're looking at a thumb drive or hard drive transfer
- but if either is connected to the internet, you run the risk of transferring
infected files every time you connect. That means you need antivirus - and to
keep that updated, you need an internet connection. It's a vicious circle.....
