Eduardo
I see you directed your question to Rod. Rod is excellent. He has taken care
of my machine since I bought it in 2003. He is certainly one of the most
knowledgable Amaya people I know. But, if I might, tell you about my
experience with a 2003 Amaya just like yours. I also had trouble with it.
But with Rod's help and an excellent customer care dept at Melco all my
problems were worked out. Now my machine runs very well. More importantly, I
have learned how to use and take care of it.
I have been monitoring this and a couple of other lists since July 2003.
There have been many Amaya owners who had bad things to say about their
experience and the machine. It seems that the majority of the trouble was
with the first machines sold. It has only been around for 4 or 5 years I
think. The technology was not fully developed and may have been introduced
too early. That was a bean counter mistake. But, Melco stood behind thier
product and extended the warranty to cover the problems. They took bad
machines back and rebuilt them with upgraded parts. Still a few leaked out.
Again, it was a management decision as to how to proceed. But, to their
credit, it appears the numbers of poor performing machines seems to have
gone down. At least I don't read about them much anymore. If your machine
has been upgraded with the new parts you should be fine. Rod can tell you
better about which ones they are. As it stands right now, my machine runs
extremely well if I do two things regularly. The most important is to change
the thread feed rollers as soon as I see a line developing on one. Don't
wait until a groove appears. Second, use a smaller needle such as a 70/10.
At high speeds though, they have a tendency to bend easier so inspect them
often.
I would not hesitate to buy a used Amaya as long as it has been updated. And
if you can get DS Pro+ in the deal and save some $ then so much the better.
The machine itself is worth about $8000 - $8500 on the used market, maybe a
little more depending on what else you get in the deal such hoops, thread,
computer, racks and designs etc. Design Shop Pro plus is about $9500 new. If
you can find a used copy you might save a few hundred but I think Melco
charges for re-registering it. Good luck.

Hi Rod:
Thank you very much. I have one more question. I
hear a lot, over problem with Amaya machine. Do you
think that the used machine (March 2003) have all of
those problems? (thread break (false and true, etc),.
They offer me 90 day warranty, but i dont want a
lemmon. Thank you for your time.
