[amayausers] Re: flex fit hat

Evelyn,

I assume the first stitch may be at the bottom center of the cap. Sometimes
you can't hoop the cap tight enough and there is a little space between the
needle plate and the cap until you get a few stitches done where it will
hold down tighter. I would suggest using some tweezers, scissors, or if
your brave (I do this all the time) use your finger to hold the cap down on
the needle plate til its gets going. Tom was having the same problem
yesterday with contructed brushed cotton caps and this did the trick for
him. Another suggestion is if you are doing constructed caps you can take
the wings off the cap driver and it should sew better. Sometimes the wings
pusshing up against the cap cause it to push up off the needle plate causing
flagging.

I use hooptech aftermarket cap frame:

I have been using these for several years now on both my EMT's and now on
the AMAYA's. I removed the wings from all my cap drivers and use raised
needle plates always for caps (raised needle plates were not suggested for
the older EMT machines) and my caps sew very well. I do lots of flexfit
structured wool and Pacific structured brushed cotton.

I think holding the cap down until it gets going a bit will solve your
problem of needles breaking.
