[amayausers] Re: flag on sleeve

Except that on the right sleeve, it has to be reversed. See any
Scout uniforms, military, etc. and on the right sleeve, yes, it is
reversed!
The rational behind the 'lead with the field of stars' (and I've
researched
this over and over for Scout training and questions that came up)
is that when 'going into battle with the standard (flag) in front,
the flagpole
would be pointing ahead-as in 'charging forward' and the stars would be
leading the charge'. So that lead to always displaying the flag with
the stars leading forward.
"EXCEPT"...once the flag patch started showing up on military uniforms,
members of the VFW realized that this showed the flag IN RETREAT
because now the field of stars is facing 'backwards'. So this is the
only time the flag is allowed to be 'displayed' in reverse according
to the
accepted standards.
(I think they have a website with all the correct info
about the flag, they have taken on 'proper flag' information, etc. as
a directive)
That's why if you sew it the 'proper' way it looks odd-because you
are seeing it
'in retreat'. Reverse it and sew it the way seen on uniforms-both
Scout and Military.
I've gone around and around with this for years with people that
didn't find the
documentation until I told them where to look.
