Quick thought...we do it all the time...did you reset your presser foot height? 
I forget after real thick jobs or hats to reset it for different shirts, 
etc.-and if it isn't down to the fabric enough, your stitches are too 'loose' 
and it trips the sensor even though the stitches aren't broken.
'big loopy' stitches to me means presser foot too high...worth checking it out!
