Hi Ed
Luckily the fabric comes off the back of the chair. The fabric is Sunbrella.
Water and fade resistant...Each chair will have a different boat name on it.
After the embroidery is done, I have to take the chair back apart and sew in a
piece of matching fabric that will cover the stitches on the back side! I am
not looking forward to the job, but, do not want to turn it away.
I appreciate your advice! I just love this amaya users group! It is extremely
helpful to us!
Thanks!
Barbara

Barbara,
If you can remove the piece from the chair, then a standard hoop should
do the trick. If you find that the fabric is thick, then a couple of handy
"alligator clips" from The Home Cheepo always are good to have, to hold the
inner and outer hoops together just in case the hoop has any ideas of coming
apart as it sews. As for needles, I would suggest an 80/12 sharp if it's a
thick fabric. If it's a regular type canvas (cheap chair), then a 75/11 sharp
should be okay.
If you can't remove the fabric from the back of the chair, say it's
riveted to the chair (been there, done that), then you are entering into the
realm of what I call "Specialized Embroidery" and you may require a special
hoop like the clamping style hoop. Melco is now selling one, such as this,
from Hooptech for the Amaya. You, of course, have to hold the chair in the air
as it sews. Let's hope it's a short design or you "work out". Also, make sure
you are getting "specialized pay" for the job - to offset the "specialized
price" for the hooping equipment.

Does anyone have any experience embroidering canvas director chair backs?
needle type/size and type of hoop used?
