This is by no means any kind of "rule of thumb" but you could look at it this
way. A brand new Amaya XT can be purchased by most for around $8,000. Every
year that the machine is old, subtract $1,000. Software has it's own value.

I learned early on in "sales" that you don't want to sell something for what
it's worth, but rather, the most that someone is willing to pay for it. There
are a lot of factors governing this...

state of the economy,
what someone can buy a new machine for,
are you selling local or nationwide,
what accessories come with the package,
warranty or no warranty,
training or no training,
will it be shipped safely or local pickup only,
how many other similar machines are available for sale,
how many "miles" on the machine - what shape is it in,

so forth and so on......

Commercial embroidery machine are like cars. Once you drive them off the lot,
they depreciate a bit for the reasons stated above. If you were going to sell
an '08 Amaya XT for $7,000, how many folks would rather pay the extra $1,000
and get a brand new one from Melco with a warranty and full phone tech support?
So this means you may need to sweeten the pot. Maybe throw in a computer or a
ton of thread, needles and backing. Offer to help with the shipping or
delivery and of course there will be training.

Remember that it is now 2010. An '08 Amaya XT is now considered 2 years old.

These are just some thoughts.
Best of luck to you.

Ed
