Step one is to digitize a walk stitch with re-trace at 18-24 points about 10
points inside the image. Set the retrace offset to around 10 points. This will
tie your backing to the cap. I would use 3 oz as a minumum on the backing.
Neither your underlay nor top stitch direction should be 0/180 degrees.
Manually creating your underlay to sew bottom to top/center out will give
better results than relying on default underlay settings. You will have 2
underlay pieces when you have it done, one left and one right. As others have
stated, make sure the top stitch sews bottom to top.
This assumes the design is not too tall for the cap and the cap is hooped
properly.
