Take a look at the fixed knife and underthread pressure spring. The knife may
have dulled after all these years or the underthread pressure spring could be
goofed up. Look in your maintenance disk and it will show you what it is
supposed to look like. Easy swap out if you need to.

I notice that when I get done sewing a design, that the thread has a
tendency to look frayed on the top when I am trimming some threads. I use ARC
threads. All colors look this way. I keep all threads out of light. Actually
they are kept in a cupboard until they are on the machine.
I change needles frequently!
What is causing this??
