Loree,
As for your color change index problem,... If your sensor system is not
functioning correctly, you will get this error. This could be caused by a
malfunctioning sensor or one that is misaligned or one that is dirty by way of
dust, lint or oil.
First do a visual check. (If you don't know what you're looking for, well,
this is what they teach in the tech class. Could be too much do describe over
the phone.)
You could also check the function of the index sensor by clicking on
"Maintenance", then "Sensors" and see the status of the color change index
sensor. If you can slide a small dark piece of paper into the sensor, you can
simulate how the sensor responds when in use. You will see the status on the
screen as either "open" or "blocked". If the sensor doesn't give you a
favorable response, it could be out of commission and in need of replacement.
Although this part is only around $25 bucks, this would not necessarily be an
easy job for someone who hasn't been through the tech class. A lot of things
to verify other than just the sensor itself.
Try the "open or blocked" test and see what you find. It will be preferable to
be on needles 1 or 16 when checking this sensor.
***And whatever you do, do not break off any of the tiny black tabs that ride
through this sensor or you will now be looking at a more complicated repair to
your needle case.
Best of luck to you.
