I figure you 've deleted that thread about the disks...
I didn't get email over the weekend but I'll still throw in my 2¢ worth.
I have an original Big Red, now going on 4 years old I guess...
and have had all kinds of problems with it from the beginning up to
about
2 1/2 years ago. I know, half were my fault, but half were caused by
program
problems or equipment mal adjustment.
But not once have I ever thought of getting a 'service manual' (or
CD) or
anything to try and diagnose a problem or fix it myself.
First thing we DID read when we bought it was a paragraph somewhere
about
VOIDING warranty if we did something to it that was OUR fault!
After 2 years, miraculously a tech appeared-lives about 50 miles away
and no
one had bothered to tell him we were that close. Now I have his phone
number
right on the machine-and have called him several times. Unless he is
across
the country on another call, I usually hear back from him within a
couple hours.
Not like staying on hold for hours with Melco phone machine...
as soon as our original warranty ran out, we picked up the extended
warranty and
haven't regretted it since. He comes out each year at the start of
the new warranty
period and overhauls the machine from top to bottom. Even stays
around to have us
run a test sewout of OUR choice, not the 'prepacked' test pattern (he
does that himself)
but we get to pick the worst problem causing design we want and he
watches it with us.
Makes suggestions, what to change, etc. and we end up very satisfied
and no problem
paying the bill. The few times something did break, he was right on
the ball getting a new
part on the way here and showing up the same day it arrived.
I do have other pieces of equipment here (screenprinting, engraving
machines, etc.) that
I have no problem tearing down, tinkering with, fixing, etc.-but for
the Amaya...that is more than
I want to chew on. Well worth the $100 a month for the warranty!
Would I buy CD's with 'training info' like digitizing tips, things
like that? Probably.
CD's with service manuals and technical stuff? Nope. Don't even want
to look at it so that I don't
make dumb comments when he's trying to fix it and I might thing I
know better because I watched
a video....not for me!
