[amayausers.com] Re: Technicians Discs On Ebay

I wasn't getting the impression the original poster is selling the CD's. He was
asking if it is worth the money to buy one.
I do not think it is possible to put every single problem on a DVD with
instructions how to fix something plus things get upgraded as years pass. (We
all remember the roller problems with big red!) Well Melco replaced the
rollers. Now that section of a DVD may not be correct anymore. I would rather
have a tech come in and fix it since he works on machines all day long.
A friend of mine is a plumber and he always laughs about the fact that 50% of
his calls are from people who screw it up themselves then call in the expert
for help. I'm sure Melco is using the same reasoning in some way.

Here is the original post:
Hi all,Just found this user group. I've run both the older and the new XT
machines with mixed results. I was just searching AMAYA on ebay and have come
across a CD set that is supposedly used by the Melco tech guys. Does anyone
know anything about these? It's a long weekend here in Australia so I cant get
onto our agent to ask them whats the story. Has anyone used this and is it
worth owning? I'd love to get your feedbackRowan

I am backing what Rod and John are saying 100%. There is a reason Melco
doesn't release these cd/dvd's to the public and it is Melco's property. This
list is very important to many people and we do not want to do anything here
that jeopardizes this list going away or any problems with Melco. I have had a
great working relationship with many people at Melco from Sales Reps, Techs,
Engineers, Training Staff and I have no desire to cross any lines or push
buttons. Using our list to advertise and especially to advertise illegal
selling of items is not cool with me and anyone doing so will be removed from
the list and banned.

First, John is absolutely right...it is Melco's property and if they want it
released to the public they will be the ones to decide. Second, you say, well
why wouldn't they want all or any information to be released? Change, upgrades
and outdated information, would be some of the reasons. As John also said there
are CD's related to specific functions. Sequin head installment procedures, (a
real chore, even for an experienced tech), and Sequin training for example.
Occasionally, a short clip on a specific function will be generated, but there
just isn't a "set" of tech training CD's that cover the entire Amaya line.
Would be nice to have, but the information in a video or CD that is current
info on one day may not be the same info a week later!!!! So, what good is the
video or CD then??

I do know that Melco, really doesn't like to generate videos/CD's as it is cost
prohibitive because of the upgrading and changes being made to the products on
an ongoing basis. I have to chuckle at times, when I see one of these video
clips, as good as some of them appear to be, they are kind of like an Alfred
Hitchcock movie, you know, the ones that left you "hanging", waiting for
"more."

Melco is constantly striving to refine the Amaya machines and therefore there
is a need to control the flow of technical information that is released out in
the field. There is constant change taking place, as there should be, to make
the Amaya product better. For those that are still under warranty protection,
Melco's technical support lines are there to help you through problems.
Attempting to repair warranty machines on your own or using a non-certified
Melco technician that is not under contract by Melco to attempt to repair your
machines without Melco's explicit authority, will certainly void your warranty.
For those that are not covered under any warranty, the choice is most certainly
yours.

to sourced from a Melco product?"

No, I don't think the techs are concerned in this regard. We know what is
involved in the training and what is really required to be proficient in this
field. If anything, it has the potential to generate more work in the long run
from failed attempts to repair machines without the proper training. If the
emergency info that you have at your disposal is current and applies to your
specific serial numbered machine(s), then maybe it would be helpful, but if it
is not, then more harm than good could be the result. As an example, I just
heard about a fella attempting to replace a small nylon thread feed drive gear
and broke the axle stud off in the head of the machine....whoops!!!

The Melco certified third party techs under contract, such as myself, have
spent thousands of dollars in travel, motels and hands-on training to get those
certifications to be a technician and trainer necessary to provide the
customers a quality service. We also are required to annually recertify in both
areas at separate times during the year. Isn't it logical to assume that if a
CD could be generated to cover all of our training, they would do it? And what
need would they need for their own in-house techs and trainers? For us, this
means paying extra fees for this upgrade training, as well as all the travel
and motels involved. There is no free ride and to think that you can solve all
your issues at $29+ dollars a pop, is just not going to happen....

Why delete? Because it's Melco's intellectual property. Period. If they want
to release it to the general public, then they should do it. Not some weasel
on EBAY selling copies without prior authorization. BTW, the tech training is
availabe for those who want to take it. Two weeks at a hotel plus a small
class cost gets you these documents and hands on training. In an emergency, it's
better to post on a list like this, and ask someone's advice who has been
fixing the machines for a while. Again, the info is great, but you could do
more damage than the cost of these discs. If someone cares to get Melco's
approval to post the videos and information, I will do it, but until that time,
it's not appropriate for the list. - - -John YaglenskiLevelbest

Discs On EbayWhy delete? This is valuable information for AMAYA owners. Take a
look at the youtube video and see if you dont
agree.http://youtube.com/watch?v=pyJCgSUqUPQIs it wrong for AMAYA owners to be
able to access viable and accurate info. I've been in the position of having a
AMAYA machine go down and not be able to get tech support because the only tech
available was on annual leave (and overseas) for 3 weeks.Contact Melco and ask
if they will send you (as a AMAYA owner) a copy of these discs - The answer
will be a very blunt NOThe only people concerned with the info release are the
techs themselves. Look at all the threads where machine owners have problems
with their machines, isn't it better that the emergency info they have access
to sourced from a Melco product?Just food for thought----- Original Message
