Darlene,
First step is to hoop up one of your caps. Then measure (fabric tape measure 
works best) from the center of the cap to the center of where you want the 
side designs to be. Then in DS, turn on your grid. Then right click on it, 
grid properties come up. Now you can specify what spacing you want the grids 
to be. Set the spacing to be the same as the measurement and that's where 
you center the side designs. Hope this helps.
