The answer to your questions are yes,yes and yes.

The new frame works on a clamping method vs the hooping method of the WACF 
frame styles. I found the protypes much easier to use than the the current WACF 
style frame altho, as with any of the cap frames, there is a learning curve 
associated with them. But, better, yes. I found it eaiser to line up the cap 
for straight sewing and for it to hold the cap more securely because of the way 
it "clamps" the cap rather than squish it together like hooping on conventional 
flat hoops.

You are correct about the ring guage question.
