Contact me off list and I can point you in a direction for a computer that
will do what you need for between $300-$600 (or less depending on what you
have now).

Yes, it is possible. Grab some fabric (I recommend a twill or similar) and
some tear away backing. Hoop it with the rectangular hoop and load the test
design. Set the fabric thickness. It takes a long time to stitch out
(especially when you're chicken like I was and stitch it at 850), but it is
so cool to watch. My husband and I sat in front of the machine and watched
it go.
I'll be happy to share my learning experiences with you if you're interested.
