[amayausers] Re: Need pricing advise

Sandra...you need to find a subcontractor that will supply the
shirts, etc.
for your job-instead of you shipping both ways.
I do a lot of small sub jobs for other engraving shops and such-and
make it
clear up front that I prefer to supply the goods-so I know what I am
getting,
and also I get a few extra. So they don't pay the freight-only for
the finished
goods. 34 shirts IS a small job...and my price list has a break at 36-
so I would
have tried hard to get the customer to take 2 more...usually works.
But the CUSTOMERS have to be educated-that SMALL orders just are NOT
going to be cheap per shirt-I had a guy come in late Thursday that
wanted
iron on's to add his name, etc. to his 'work shirts' for the highway
dept.
He thought I could just whip them out on a printer and he could iron
them
on at home-for $1 APIECE! After 30 minutes I still don't think I had
him understanding
that there was no way I could supply him with anything he could 'iron
on' AT HOME,
on WORN CLOTHING....that would stick.
Would he order new shirts so I could screen them? Nope....somehow he
thought
he could get it done for $1 a shirt.
No difference with commercial accounts-they get prices for 144 or 288
shirts-and then
come back expecting to order just a dozen AT THE SAME PRICE....
so I have to explain-no matter if I do 1 shirt or 1000 , I already
have an hour and a half
of labor for the job-setup, design time, burning a screen, washout,
and then cleanup and
stripping afterwards. No matter how many. Embroidery...still have to
digitize the design-
no matter how many. So the fewer they get, the more it costs.
If you can educate the customer-you can get the jobs and still make
money.
Most people now adays don't even think about 'freight'...when they
pay $9.95 for
'shipping and handling' to get a CD off the late nite tv...it really
only costs about 75¢
but they don't think about it. So go ahead and add the freight in
separately...I'll bet the
competition does the same thing.
