The XT will definitely handle your jacket back field requirements. Some
comments . . . if you're not mechanically inclined, this may take the enjoyment
out of your hobby. There is required maintenance involved. These machines are
made to run for full days and not really a good idea to just let sit around.
Training is a necessity and don't think you can take it out of the box and
start sewing. Networking is involved and so is software. The XT has 16 needles
which means you could handle a 16-color design without re-threading; however,
if there are more than 16 colors in your design, you will need to organize your
process. The XT is a high quality industrial embroidery machine. It might be
more than you want and more than you want to be responsible for if this is just
a hobby or crafting venture.

Hope this helps.

  Subject: [amayausers.com] Need advice

I'm thinking of buying an Amaya XT and need some advice if I'm doing the
right thing or not. I have 3 home machines which all
work fine, but I want a machine with a "jacket-back-size" field. I know the
  XT has a 16 x 19 (or thereabouts) size field and I
realize it is an expensive machine for someone not doing a lot of selling.
But I want to make large cross-stitch pictures and
splitting a design just doesn't work.
My question is: Do you think this machine will accomplish what I want (30
to 50 color changes). I don't care about speed.
I want quality and size. Would this machine be "too much machine" for a
neophyte to handle? I'm not mechanically oriented,
but then again this machine won't be running more than a few hours a week.

Other than you probably think I'm just plain NUTZ, could you give me your
  opinions?
  Thanks,
  Stitcher
