John,

Usually the appearance of feathers is done by the outline around fill or if
you want a nice defined look you can do the body in fill then use columns
that overlap in the wings for the feathers.  You can send your design to me
to look at if you want but changing the fill type won't make it look more
like feathers I don't think.  I am only going to be here for another 10 min
today but will probably check my e-mail tomorrow, otherwise I can look at it
first thing Monday if you haven't got it figured out.
