[amayausers] Re: How did this happen

This list is not a private or closed list. The archives of it are not password protected so they are open to the search engines for cataloging. All lists, whether they are on Yahoo Groups, or where ever that have open archives that are not protected by password entry will be open to the search engines. This is why some lists do not have archives of the posts, and why others have them password protected and accessible by members only.

The archives of this list could be secured as it an option in the setup. But, then people wanting access to them would need a password, and that requires a whole lot of maintenance to keep working correctly. People loose their passwords, etc.

With that said, it still does not guarantee your privacy.

Several months ago I posted a request for information on the list. I now see
that Goggle has picked up the entire posting complete with my name address
and telephone number. The posting was not nasty it just voiced a problem I was
having with a company. The posting was not meant to follow me and my company
forever. Yes, yes I know nothing is confidential on the net but I wish
someone could help me understand how this happened. I will be more careful in the
future.
