As far as the fraying, I've been told that Melco fonts come with a tie in,
but no tie off. I question whether all letters have a tie-in based on my
experiences. I have started going in and adding tie in and tie off to all
of my stitches (not just fonts). I've found that this helps especially on
small fonts. The only problem is that the smaller designs sometimes look
nasty on the back with all the ties.
As far as what fonts work best, that depends on the size of the font you
plan to use. I like Melco Micro Block for the very small lettering, but I
must use water soluble topping on knits or anything with pile as well as a
heavy backing. I've also been know to convert letters to wireframe and edit
them myself, but only after stitch out - WYSIWYG isn't always true.
I'd be interested in what everyone else does to combat this problem.
