You can try to scale it to 4" wide or so and then sew it out on sample
material to see how it looks.  Its really going to depend on the detail of
the design and how it was digitized.

As far as button down shirts Tri-Mountain and Sanmar both have a good
selection.  You could also try Edwatds.
