[amayausers] Re: Hello & hooping

Susan,
Not Ron, but in answer to your question. I would avoid sewing anything
that says out of hoop limits. You can turn them off, but until you sew
for a few months I wouldn't recommend it. Your machine will not sew a
design with the limits turned on if the hoop limit is sensed. It might
start, but it will stop when the design gets to the area of the hoop
limit. I would check and see if you could move just a small amount on
the opposite side of the hoop to alleviate the hoop limit on that side.
Most of the time a small move like that won't make your design off
center to notice.

The laser is off a small amount on flats maybe 1/16 inch. But on hats
because of the curve of the hat it's just under 1/4 inch. So when I line
up hats the laser points less than 1/4 inch to the right of the middle
hat seam. (That's as you look at the hat on the machine) It's my
experience that the laser is only off in the horizontal direction.

I use the laser trace for a lot of things. When I have a pocket on the
garment, I observe the laser as it goes around, and if the design is
flat on the bottom you can see if the laser moves parallel to the
pocket. That's another way that I check to see if my hoop arms are
straight. Pockets make it tricky, because the pocket will make any
crooked hooping really obvious.

Just some of my observations.

Thanks Ron,
I did what you said. Not only was it easy but worked
like a charm. Previously I was told that the laser
dot was only to be used for tracing because it shines
a litte to the right. Does anyone know how far to the
right it shines. And is the light only shifted in the
horizontal direction. I don't think this little shift
will affect most hooping and aligning jobs but I'm
thinking that I might need to align something up
exactly sometime--split design or something. Maybe
this might not happen now that I have some really
large hoops to choose from but I have had to do that
in the past.

Also, I had a design set up in a 15cm hoop. The
design on screen showed that it was barely touching
the inner hoop limit line (is that what you call it?).
I traced it on the machine and didn't see any
problems. But as the machine came to the one spot it
stopped and said it was out of the hoop limits. Would
it have been O.K. to go ahead and stitch it?? Luckily
it was just a test stitchout so I fudged it to finish
the stitching.
