Hello Teresa,
Welcome to the embroidery business. We sew out a ton of hats and here's
what we do. That very thing happen to us and we were stitching to close to
the bill of the hat. Its to much of a drop off and it puts the needle in a
bind. Make sure when you have your hat logos digitized that they are not
over 2.25 to 2.75. high. We use the standard cap frame that comes with the
machine, we run three machines and we like the standard frame. Also you
need to make sure you use the cap driver that was assigned to that machine.
When we change needle plates to do hats we always let needle down and
tighten screws so that needle is in the middle of hole. Hope this helps. We
use 75/11 needles on everything. Sometimes use ball pt. on knits. but hats
always 75/11. sometimes we run 28dozen on one order and never have a ruin.
You have to check your bobbin, periodically, because you turn the bobbin
detect off to do hats. It will keep sewing and make a mess, you have to
pull hat off, clean up, put in new bobbin, back up to wear it ran out and
hit go. you'll get a feel of how many hats you can do on one bobbin,
depending on design.
Best regards,
Beverly Thompson

Subject: [amayausers] Hat Help
> Hey everybody, I am very new to this business and especially to caps. I
am trying to stitch a logo on a cap. The first one stitched out fine. The
next one the first line stitched fine, but then we had a needle break. We
changed the needle and then we couldn't keep the thread in the needle at
all. As soon as it raised for the first stitch it was out. We changed the
bobbin, cleaned out around the bobbin and basically did everything that we
could think of. Made sure the needle was in straight, up all the way, etc.
We left it alone for awhile, went back and it stitched out fine. The next
hat we put on same thing happened, needle broke and this time it wouldn't
ever start stitching. The cap has a seam down the front and has buckram
also. I am at work this morning and can't remember what needle we were
using, but had looked at the recommended size for the material. I have an
order that is already late going out. I would welcome any suggestions?
