[amayausers] Re: FW: Need more advice

Larry, a lot depends on the client (for male, female, or either?), the
type of garment and fabric (formal or informal? tightly woven, fleece,
knit?). I usually use a script if for female or more formal use. Even
then, it depends on the fabric--you can get away with a narrower font if on
a tightly woven fabric but you must choose a heavier font or increase the
pull comp on fabrics with a nap or heavier fabrics like sweatshirts, etc.
Some fonts allow for more pull comp than others. Watch to make sure it
doesn't close openings of the letters. We try to match the font if it is for
a group and they already have printed materials for their organization. I
use block or something more masculine for guys in most cases. If a "fun"
garment, I use things such as Hobo. There are a lot of variables to
consider. I know this isn't a cut and dried response, but there isn't one.
Best suggestion without knowing to what degree of software you purchased, is
to hoop fabrics and try some of your fonts to test them. Once you get a
feel for the fonts and size and pull comp you can play with, you will be a
better judge of what to use. We printed off all the fonts from our
software, placed them in plastic sheet protectors and made a 3" 3-ring
binder---we refer to it all the time. It gives suggestions on fabrics and
largest and smallest size for that font on many. If you purchased the
Design Shop Pro+ (which is what we have), you can use most true type fonts
and it will convert them to stitches for you. There are many free font
sites on the internet to download true type fonts from. I hope I've made
some sort of sense---others may chime in and be more help.
  Sharon
