Check the cable, Un plug it and then follow it making sure there is no damage
to it unplug the the other end and then make sure you have them both seated
properly.
I had a mouse chew on an ethernet cable and took for ever to realize it was the
problem. since it was in the middle of the cable.
Can't hurt to look.
also check and make sure the green and yellow lights are on where it plugs in
the computer.
You may (not likely) have a blown network card.
