I sew through the jacket like I normally would (not using the opening). The
chance of getting the jacket sewn together is too great. The only time I
use the special pockets are when the zipper is in the middle and would have
to be sewn over if you didn't use the pocket. I have accidentally sewn over
a few zipper and it doesn't work out real great.
