It is not uncommon for stock designs to require editing in order to
produce a quality stitchout ..... regardless of the brand of machine
used. Many stock designs will benefit from things like reduced
densities, removal of short stitches, adjustment to stitch lengths, etc.
The fact that your Amaya will run better after editing a Dakota design
is not really an indication of a design being made specifically for the
Amaya but instead just good practice when using stock designs regardless
of the brand of machine used. Properly editing a stock design will mean
that the design will run better on an Amaya, Tajima, Barudan, Toyota,
SWF, Happy, or any other machine which someone may be using.
We have been embroidering / digitizing for a number of years and have
never used a stitch density of 3.2 If using 60 wt. thread with a for
very small lettering, I might increase density to 3.8 but that is it.
Virtually all embroiderer's will be using a 40 wt. thread [poly or
rayon] and I believe that a density range of 4.5 - 5.0 is what will
normally produce the best quality designs. If coverage is not sufficient
in this density range then often adjustments to underlay stitching,
stitch lengths and/or stitch direction is a better choice [instead of
increasing density].
A good quality design should "flow" with the garment, not "bullet proof"
it. I believe that excessive stitch density is often compensation for
poor digitizing .... which in turn, results in a poor quality stitchout.
