I don't think that the "fonts" that Barb sells are fonts that can be used as
keyboard lettering within Design Shop. I think you are right that they are
individually digitized letters that are inserted and manipulated as
individual design elements. So you would insert each letter into the design
one at a time. 

I don't know what version or level DS you have. You might have the ability
to create your own keyboard fonts that work just like the fonts that came
with DS. But...it's probably not worth doing unless you will be using the
font a lot and have the skill to do it.

I'm thinking the "fonts" from Grand Slam are actually designs in the shape  
of letters. In Letera (and I'm thinking DS is the same) you'll need to go to

File - Insert - select the design you want and it will insert the design.
Then 
you can manipulate placement. Hope this helps.
