Dave,
Sometimes a design that only has two colors will have three or four
color changes, maybe the reason in your case is it will stitch black then
some of the white will overlap the first black then the second black may
overlap the white and black again and so on, if you were to combine the
blacks and whites so there is only one color change the design would not
look right.
