I've heard of it but not seen it myself...I think it was from a needle burr 
catching it as it passes through, or a burr/nick on the bobbin case itself.
Take it out, clean it good, and then run your finger around and around-see if 
you can feel a nick.
Also, you can try a q tip...rub it around and you'll see the cotton fibers 
'catch' if there is a problem.
