[amayausers] Re: Battery Back Up

If you lived where I do Ron... You would probably do as I did. 8^0

For a while, I had the power company on speed dial our power cycled so
often.... It just happened one too many times that we were in the middle of
the design and it went out. The amaya continued on her way, the power came
back and it was as if nothing ever happened. I wouldn't run it for more
than about 5 minutes on backup. I figure if I can run servers at work on
backup for 30 minutes or more when outages occur and still serve up data,
surely my princess can keep sewing. 8^)

Most of our power outages only lasted 15-20 seconds.

:I have a different take on the power outage thing, We don't
:get many power issues but we just have a cheap $68 bucks unit
:for the computer only.
:like mentioned earlier the monitor isn't plugged in since it
:sucks the battery dry quickly.
:when the machines go down from a power outage.
:I go over and swap plugs on the monitor so I can dictate how
:much time I use for it.
:I make a note on each head running
:of the stitch count and the X,Y axis.
:then I unplug the monitor, we haven't
:had any machine down longer than 10 minutes but once they are
:back we use the return to last origin setting in the Amaya OS
:and got to the move menu and enter the stitch number we noted
:and haven't lost a garment yet. Remember don't take the hoops
:out of the machines or recenter or make any changes until
:things are reset and working.
:
:Works for us, may not be the text book answer, but I don't
:like the thought of running a machine to the end of a design
:on the backup, that is only designed for emergencies, We've
:had some important deadlines but never so tight that I
:couldn't wait until the power came back.
:
:Of course this might be different if it happened more often.

:> Mike,
:>
:> I bought 2 backup units. One for the computer and one for
:my 2 Amayas.
:> Make
:> sure the battery backup unit has line conditioning. Not all backup
:> devices
:> have them.
:> I bought mine at Best Buy and I think I paid about $130.00 each.
:>
:> Remember, the price of a service call to replace a blown
:circuit board is
:> A LOT MORE THAN THE BACKUP DEVICE. Plus the down time.
