If you can't get a hoop to stay-we couldn't on some hydropacks-nothing at
ALL would hold them in a hoop....we used the fastframe and adhesive backing
to help hold it while we went around the outer edge with those steel 'paper
clamps' from Staples-the wedge shaped ones. About six per 'hoop' did
it...and you MUST do a trace first to see if the handles on the wedges need
to be bent. (you know the mini clamps on the WACF hat frame? these are like
2 inches across) You don't want to have a clamp shot across the room if it
gets pushed off....
good luck! that nylon is slippery stuff!

Thank you so much Cheryl!
This style backpack is triangle shaped. The zipper runs from bottom left to
upper right. The flap with the zipper is 5 1/2 inches wide. The customer
wants 2 1/2 inch letters embroidered. I was thinking edge walk, but double
zigzag is probably better.
I don't think hooping it will be a problem. I hope not anyway!

Luann,
I did 3 backpacks last week and it was probably a little lighter than a
Jansport, but close. I used double tearaway (just preventative I probably
didn?t even need it) no topping. I put an double zig zag underlay to make
the lettering sit up nicely on the nylon. They were ½ inch block with two
lines. They turned out nicely and sewed like a trooper. I was lucky that my
15 cm hoop fit inside the pocket it needed to go on. Sometimes the biggest
issue on bags will be finding the hoop that will fit the design and also fit
in the confined space of a backpack pocket. Sometimes the zippers are in the
way, etc. etc.

The back to school push has started! OUr kids don't go back for another 5
weeks but I find myself taking several phone calls for putting initials on
backpacks.
I had a customer drop off a "Jansport" backpack for me to embroider 2 inch
initials on. "O G P"... Font style...Brody.
Any suggestions for choice of backing and if a topping is needed would be
greatly appreciated.
The backpack is nylon.
Thanks...
