[amayausers.com] Re: Application Form ?

You can buy pads of preprinted standard application forms from Staples.
We use them for our retail store.
We also have a fairly simple 'preapplication test' that my manager will do
before she even hands out an application...
1) the person LOOKING for the job has to be the one GETTING the application.
None of this 'my friend/daughter/sister asked me to pick her up one'...
2) they have to show up LOOKING like they want to work for us...CLEAN clothes, neat hair, no facial or visible body piercings, NO facial tatoos...our CUSTOMERS don't want to feel like they are in grundge punk hangout. NO multicolored hair, freaky hairstyles...rule of thumb is...if that person in front of you is NOT someone you
would want handing you food...then we don't want them working for us.
3) ENGLISH has to be their FIRST language-this is the USA...and ENGLISH is the
official language-all our customers speak it!
4) they have to be able to do simple math IN THEIR HEAD without using fingers and toes. I'm sorry...but if a high school graduate can't tell me how much TEN PERCENT OFF a
DOLLAR sale is...they don't get an application.
AND trust me, more than half of them GET IT WRONG!
5) the application (if they made it this far) is handed to them WITH A PEN...and they have to fill it out STANDING RIGHT THERE. No one gets to take it home- that way we can make sure THEY can write clearly and correctly-not have someone else do it!

The biggest gimmick is the constant stream of people that walk in or call us, and just say "you aren't hiring anyone now are you? what's your name so I can fill it in on my job search form for unemployment" guess what-we tell them they CANNOT use our business for their unemployment since they aren't really looking for a job-just a free ride! And every so often, I personally CALL the unemployment office and TELL them-we aren't
hiring, we don't allow 'non applicants' to fill in our name, etc.
NO free ride from me!
I have never been unemployed for more than month in my life-and I've shoveled chickenpoop, horse droppings, worked in the county home kitchen, you name it...I've always earned my keep
and I see no reason why anyone else shouldn't be able to do the same!
