In Design shop you can click to view a background grid, and centering lines for 
horizontal and vertical. Then select 'all',
and move the design to your position in here if you don't want
to be moving it with the hoop controls each time.
I have not used the 'stripped down' OS but I wouldn't be 
surprised if you can do something very similar in there since 
there is supposed to be some basic editing features there.
Hopefully someone will jump in here and let us know if this is
possible. My suggestion to you is see about getting Design Shop
while at training-usually you can get good discounts on purchases
while at training-or maybe buy it from someone selling off their Amaya and 
Designshop separately.
