I have to agree with Aaron. The software changes from early on till now have made so many things kind of obsolete in a way. Just to kind of get some clarity for those that are relatively new lets play the hypothetical game.
The fathers (and mothers) of the embroidery trade have said if our tensions are correct we shall see the 1/3 bobbin-2/3 top thread on the back of our column stitches. So if we are striving for this and do not have enough top thread we can do a couple things. Decrease top thread tension (feeds more thread) or increase bobbin tension (feeds less thread) or a combination of both. But we are in Amaya land and have no knobs to play with. We are at a MT (material thickness) of say 6 so we go up to a 7. Now we have almost no bobbin showing and the top stitch looks ever so slightly loose. So how do we compensate now? This is where the Column Feed tab comes into play. We could stay at a 7 and change the column feed to a 50 or 60 thus decreasing the thread feed by a smaller amount than going to a MT of 6. Or we could go back to a 6 and then drop the column feed to a 30, increasing thread but not as much as a MT of 7.
The same theory applies to the Run/Fill tab. As you make changes to these parameters you get a visual interpretation in the little window. This is what the software allows us to do and in theory it allows us to really fine tune the thread feed system. BUT. Is it really necessary to do all this? I don't know. There are lots of folks that are not changing these parameters and have great success. The Auto Acti-Feed has kind of taken thread feed out of our hands to a point. I do know if an operator is having issues with sew quality or thread breaks you are most likely not going to find the cure with these settings.
After I re-read what I am about to post it occurs to me that I have not really given Geri the kind of answer she may be looking for. There are some thread feed settings in the OS software and are a real good place to start. Take Aarons settings and use them as a beginning point, then as you become more familiar with the garments you are working with you will gain the experience that says okay this should be a whatever minimum setting.
Hope this gives you something to get wrapped around. Herb Royal Embroidery----- Original Message ----- From: "Linen Barn" <linen@xxxxxxxxxxx>

I bought my first AMAYA's in 2002 and I have never changed the Column Feed or Run/Fill Feed settings and since the auto Material Thickness has been added a year or 2 ago I have not had to adjust the MT either. The only setting I change is the lower limit setting. If doing T's or polos I usually set it at 2, sweatshirts 4-6, unstructured caps 4-6, structured 6-9. This tends to prevent some thread breaks by not allowing the MT to go lower than it should. YOu can tell you have it set too high if you are getting false bobbin breaks. If you get False bobbin breaks then set it down a number or 2.Aaron Sargent The Linen Barn linen@xxxxxxxxxxx 541-770-2957 Medford, OR----- Original Message ----- From: "Studio 187 LLC" <InsideStudio187@xxxxxxxxxxx>To: <amayausers@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2007 5:55 AM Subject: [amayausers.com] Re: Acti-feed question - setting lower limitsThank you Herb. Could you give me an example of settings for something specific? Umm, say, a heavy cotton hoodie . . . what would you change and why? Then an example for something lighter, like, general cotton sewing fabric. What would you change and why. I think the examples will help me wrap my head around the process. A larger number decreases the amount of thread being fed. This can be used as a fine tuning tool when setting yourtensions (material thickness).Run/Fill Feed is the same thing except it applies to run stitches and fillstitches. Material Thickness is self explanatory.Autofeed Lower Limit. The gravy on the potatoes. I like to run this at onenumber under what I think the material thickness is. Prevents the machine from dropping to a lower material thickness than the setting you specify. Hope this helps. I have version 7.00.055 and I do not have the lower actifeed minimum. I just have a setting for material thickness, but not for a minimum. When you find out the version, I would appreciate knowing it. Select the Thread Feed Tab. At the bottom is a box for Autofeed Lower Limit I think is what it says. As far as version I can't remember which version it came out in. I am a Beta tester so I get stuff early to work out bugs so I have had this feature for a while now so its hard to remember when it came out but I am thinking it was 7.055 but don't quote me on this. I am now running 7.00.110 and I am not sure if this is a realeased version or not but I think it may be. If nothing else call your sales rep and see if you are eligible for the free upgrade or if you are past and have to pay.
