Land grabs can be very "local" and "grab" any of us. One is in process
already right here in Louisville, CO. Front Range Colorado voters have
approved development of a commuter rail line from Denver north some 50+
miles. One of the major stations for that line will be in downtown
Louisville. Have any of you seen what happens at stops on similar metro
systems, e.g., Silver Spring, and Bethesda, MD on the D.C. Metro red
line? The movers and shakers in Louisville, CO have. They already have
an "urban renewal plan" developing that will allow confiscations around
the proposed station site outside protective "taking" laws. At the same
time they preach the need for more "commercial and retail development".
Rule 1: When there is money to be made politicians will lie to get it.
So New Orleans look out!!! I've already seen editorial comment by
conservative business people (The Wall Street Journal) saying
redevelopment on NO should eschew planning and let market forces
prevail. Gosh. lets use Las Vegas as a model.
