1) SRDI Spring issue of SiteBytes.
SRDI seeks one poem and/or one photograph for SiteBytes, a quarterly
e-letter which is sent to nearly 750 subscribers across the nation who are
particularly interested in issues that affect rural places generally, and
rural communities specifically. Our Spring edition will highlight the
intersection of cultural and social justice work, and will include an
article based on a recent interview with Carolyn Morris, as well as an
article about an upcoming program meeting which Carolyn and some ROOTS
artists will attend. I'm looking for a poem and/or photograph which would
be suggestive of that intersection, or which expresses a 'sense of place'
(either one that is particular to the artist, or about how one--or
everyone--seeks it...). The poem can be as brief as a Haiku or as long as a
page. Any photograph should include some background information or a
caption that the artist proposes. Ideal deadline will be May 2.
2) SRDI Website.
SRDI will celebrate its 10th Anniversary in October, and ROOTS will be
helping us celebrate both by connecting cultural workers to rural
communities, and adding a culture/arts component to the October event. We
are seeking to integrate poetry, short prose (fiction or creative
non-fiction), photography, and other visual arts on our website. There is
no particular theme necessary for these works, although those which are
particularly relevant to rural places, people and culture will be the best
fit. We're looking for up to ten works.
If artists would like to learn more about the SRDI--the Southern Rural
Development Initiative--before submitting, the website is www.srdi.org
