Attached is the SARA manual in a .zip file and below is the SARA quick reference guide: VERA Keypad Keys Specifically designed for easy identification, the VERA keypad has 19 keys arranged in 6 rows with up to 5 keys in each row. Some spaces are unused. The VERA keypad is divided into 3 key sets - major keys, navigation keys, and function keys. Major Keys: The most important keys, located on the keypad's bottom row, are double sized vertical keys. The left key is Scan, the center key is Read, and the right key is Stop. Press the Scan key or Read key to begin scanning or reading. Press the Stop key to stop scanning or reading. The Major Keys are colored and have the following raised symbols: Scan key: Blue rectangular key with a raised solid circle. Read key: Green rectangular key with a raised hollow circle. Stop key: Red rectangular key with a raised X. Navigation Keys: Below the first two rows of Function Keys are the 6 Navigation Keys. The keys are arranged in a cross. (The center key is non-functional.) Each key has a raised arrow indicating its direction of movement. Press these keys to move between words, lines, or pages of text. VERA will read the current word, line, or page of text aloud. Find the center of row 3 and 5. These are the Line Up Key and the Line Down Key. These keys move you up or down one line of text at a time. VERA will then read the entire line of text. Line Up Key: Raised solid arrow pointing up. Line Down Key: Raised solid arrow pointing down. Find row 4. There are four functional keys and one non-functional key in this row. From left to right, they are as follows: Page Back Key: The first key on the left has a raised hollow arrow pointing left. This key moves you back one page. Word Back Key: The second key from the left has a raised solid arrow pointing left. This key moves you back one word. Center Key is non-functional Word Forward Key: The fourth key from the left has a raised solid arrow pointing right. This key moves you forward one word. Page Forward Key: The last key in this row has a raised hollow arrow pointing right. This key moves you forward one page. Function Keys: In the first two rows are the 10 function keys, which are protected by a flip-up cover. These keys provide additional control over the way VERA reads documents. First Row Mode Key: The first key on the left lets you choose between two ways of reading a page. Press this key to switch between each reading sequence. Primary reading sequence: Reads words in paragraphs. Alternate reading sequence: Reads words in tables. Speed Key: The second key from the left, adjusts VERA?s reading speed. There are 7 speeds. Pressing this key increases the speed until it cycles back to the slowest speed. Size Key: The third key from the left (only if you are using a display/TV monitor) adjusts the size of words displayed on the screen. There are a total of 7 sizes. To resume reading, press the Read key. Color Key: The fourth key from the left (only if you are using a display/TV monitor) changes the color of your words and screen background. Pressing this key cycles through 7 available options. To resume reading, press the Read key. Off Key: The last key in this row is a yellow key with a raised forward slash. Press this key twice to turn VERA off. If you pressed the Off key once and then decide not to turn VERA off, press any other key to cancel the system shut down. Second Row Erase Key: The first key on the left lets you erase a page or an entire folder. Press the Erase key twice to erase the current page. Press the Erase key once and press the File key twice to erase an entire folder. If you pressed the Erase key once and then decide not to erase anything, press any key except the Erase or File key to cancel Erase Mode. File Key: The second key from the left lets you store up to 10 different file folders with unlimited pages in each folder. Press the File key to cycle through each file folder. If the file folder contains a document, VERA reads the first sentence of that document. If the file folder is empty, VERA only reads the file folder number. Language Key: The third key from the left, lets you choose between English, French, and Spanish. Spell Key: The fourth key from the left, spells out the word you're currently reading, then repeats the word. Help Key: The last key in this row is a yellow key with a raised question mark symbol. Use it to learn the function of any key on the keypad. Press the Help key once to put you in Help Mode. Then press any key on the keypad and VERA will announce its function. To return to normal operating mode, press the Help key a second time.
