I would suggest getting Windows 7 with the upgrade option to Windows 8.
Windows 7 has be very stable for me.

My 5 year old XP desktop is giving me grief and the Windows has had to be
repaired three times in the last 4 months.  So I am considering getting a
new machine.  I guess that my choices are:
1.  getting a new Ms windows 7 or waiting for windows 8. 
Or
2.  Getting a Mac Pro, which runs both, apple OS, and Windows.
  Which would you recommend.
