Eligible persons may apply to Rehabilitation Dept.
THENI: Various equipment worth Rs.2 lakhs meant for the physically disabled and
visually impaired persons would be disbursed to eligible persons during
this year. Eligible physically disabled persons may apply to the Department of
Rehabilitation immediately to avail themselves of the facilities provided
by the Government to them, according to the Collector, Rajesh Lakhoni.
Distributing equipment to a group of beneficiaries at a function held at the
Collectorate here on Monday, he said the department would distribute equipment
and other devices to disabled persons free of cost.
The administration received wheel-cycles, wheel-chairs, callipers, crutches,
artificial limbs for disabled persons, dark-coloured spectacles, sticks, braille
watches, hearing equipment and solar battery chargers during this year
also.Annual income of eligible persons seeking the equipment except artificial
limbs
should not exceed Rs.30,000 per annum. Annual income of a person seeking
artificial limbs should not exceed Rs.12,000 per annum.
Persons, who had received assistive devices five years ago, were also eligible
to apply now. Later, Mr. Lakhoni distributed artificial limbs to five persons
and braille watch to a person. The District Rehabilitation Officer, S.
Mathivanan, accompanied him.
Dindigul
The Collector, S. Murugaia, distributed Rs.2 lakh worth of equipment, financial
assistance, notebooks and textbooks to disabled persons and students at
a grievance day meeting held at the Collectorate on Monday. He distributed
three wheeled cycles to 16 persons, wheel-chairs to four persons, crutches to
two persons, spectacles and sticks to blind persons and note books to 400
children admitted to bridge schools for child labourers.
